Engagement Ring Shopping
When a couple shops for their diamond engagement ring they believe gaining product knowledge is the only thing that’s important. At Elsarings.com, we believe that it’s equally important that couples ask themselves a few questions that only they themselves can answer.
How Important Is Trust?
• How do you feel about the jeweler you’re about to do business with?
Every company can come up with Love Letters – we have thousands.
Checking the Better Business Bureau is a good idea.
But ultimately there is only one way to know if a jeweler truly satisfies their customers. The quickest way to find out how satisfied a jewelers' clients are is to check the percentage of people who have returned their diamond rings – their charge-back ratio. The more reputable a jeweler – the better quality their product is – the fairer their prices – the less customers are likely to return their diamond rings.
Make sense?
How Important Is Craftsmanship?
- • How can you tell if you’re getting a quality engagement ring setting?
- • How do you feel about your engagement ring setting being stressed by cutting and sizing?
- • How do you feel about the side stones matching the color of your center stone?
- • Are you willing to sacrifice diamond and/or metal quality to get a lower price?
How Important Is Service?
- • How do you feel about knowledgeable jewelers, designers and gemologist being available to guide you should you need it?
- • How do you feel about buying your engagement ring from a company that will be there to service your lifetime purchase for years to come?
In the coming weeks and months you will probably continue to visit jewelers and other wedding jewelry websites.
Before making that final decision will you compare service, diamond and metal quality as well as price?
Since you’re making a lifetime purchase, is the jeweler you’re buying from one you would enjoy having a long-term relationship with?

The Cut of a Diamond Determines its Brilliance
There is no single measurement of a diamond that defines it, but rather a collection of measurements and observations. These determine the relationship between a diamond's light performance, dimensions and finish.
Most gemologists consider cut the most important diamond characteristic because even if a diamond has perfect color and clarity, a diamond with a poor cut will have dulled brilliance.
The width and depth can have an effect on how light travels within the diamond, and how it exits in the form of brilliance.
- Too Shallow: Light is lost out the bottom causing the diamond to lose brilliance.
- Too Deep: Light escapes out the sides causing the diamond to appear dark and dull.
